Tender words

LUL has invited three bidders to tender for the Sub-Surface Infraco. The groups are LINC (Bombardier Prorail, John Mowlem & Company, Fluor Daniel, Alcatel and Anglian Water), Metronet (Adtranz, WS Atkins, Balfour Beatty, Seeboard and Thames Water) and a consortia made up of Amey, Bechtel/Halcrow and Jarvis.
Bids to maintain the Sub- Surface infrastructure are to be received by 15 September.

SIX bidders have prequalified to tender for LU’s Property Partnership which will manage and develop the Underground’s non-operational portfolio. Bids are due in July.

Steam on the Met

THE London Underground Board has decided that this year's Steam on the Met will be the last. The popular railway event will take place over the weekends of 20-21 and 27-29 May.

Any old iron?

IN the early evening of 3 March, the section of Upney to Heathway eastbound tripped on overload.
After an unsuccessful recharge attempt, a search by staff revealed an exhaust pipe which had presumably decided to jump off the nearby footbridge. A bicycle had done the same thing the previous evening.
The ERU visited the site later to remove these and an assortment of scrap iron which had accumulated near the base of the nearby footbridge.

Getting in a flap

ON 2 March, a Canada goose experienced difficulties in getting airborne after having landed on the tracks between Queens Park and Kensal Green. Train services ran cautiously through the area while Railtrack staff donned hunter's gear and helped it safely on its way.
