
Proof in plastic
Those two-litre plastic pop bottles will soon be used for more than just holding liquid.
A team at Bradford University has found a way to manufacture sound-proofing material from plastic waste which is cheaper, lighter and more fire retardant than existing methods such as acoustic foam and glass fibre.
This might come in handy for European car manufacturers, who from 2006 onwards, will have to pay the cost of scrapping old cars according to a new EU end-of-life vehicle directive.
